Don’t get caught on the side of Camelback Mountain without water and needing to call the rescue team in – nobody wants to be on the news for that!
If you are new to Arizona, coping with the heat may seem almost impossible. As you become a Phoenician, certain lessons will be learned along the way to help you beat the heat, and actually enjoy it! Here are some tips on staying active during the Arizona heat!
- Pool Time – No need to heat your pool in the summer time! Taking a dip in the pool is a quick way to cool off during the Arizona summer. Phoenix and Scottsdale have several options if your backyard isn’t one of them. You can always go to Wet n’Wild, Big Surf, or Sunsplash for the water parks. Or if you have a gym membership, Lifetime Fitness or the Village Health Clubs have great indoor/outdoor pools for your enjoyment! There are also a handful of public pools available during the summer, but check the schedule, as we are getting close to back to school time!
- Go to the Movies – Don’t you always take a light jacket to the movie theater because it’s always chilly inside? What a great way to cool off during the summer. Make sure you try Studio Movie Grill – ticket prices are comparable to the local Harkins or AMC theaters, but you can reserve your seat online, and order food and drinks at your chair!
- Arizona Science Center – With or without the kids, the Arizona Science Center will certainly keep you busy for the day. Through 9/11/14, Mummies 3D will be at the venue, along with their permanent exhibits from the Fly Zone, Forces of Nature, and Get Charged Up. Check their calendar to see the scheduled events for your day or night out!
- Take a Day Trip – Relief from the high temperatures are just a little over an hour away! Take a day trip up to Sedona and enjoy the Red Rocks, 7 Canyons Golf Course, Kayaking, shopping and dining. If Sedona isn’t cool enough, drive an extra 1/2 an hour to Munds Park (almost to Flagstaff) to enjoy a quaint cabin in the woods, a quick round of golf, or a slice of pizza at Woody’s Pizza!
